New Editor chosen for the Straightpipe

The Washington DC Region SCCA is pleased to announce our new Editor for the StraightPipe.  Alan Claffie has been chosen after several highly qualified applicants submitted their response to our ad.  Alan brings a great deal of experience to the position.

Alan wrote and edited "Raceway Media" magazine, which had a fun five-year stretch of covering New England short-track stock car racing in the early '00s.  He has enjoyed a ten-plus year hobby ('retiring' after the 2009 season) of covering the NASCAR Busch North/Busch East/Camping World East/K&N Pro Series East Series for his own web site as well as for a handful of trade papers.  During that same stretch he contracted with teams running in that series to write their weekend recaps and maintain their web sites.

His most recent project was writing the NASCAR chapter for the forthcoming book that Lime Rock Park is producing to celebrate its 60th anniversary.

Alan joined the SCCA in 2009 and has run Solo regularly ever since.  He and his wife both serve on the organizing committees of WDCR Autocross and Autocrossers, Incorporated.  He has written articles on Autocross for the Straightpipe for the last couple of years.

He is well-versed in the organizing of writers and photographers to have their submissions in by deadline, arranging those submissions into a quality product.  Writing about cars is something he takes great enjoyment in, and he is looking forward to doing his part to bring the stories of the racers and volunteers of WDCR to light in the Straightpipe.
