Welcome to WDCR-SCCA Club Trials Competition and PDX Event

November 16th, 2008 Shenandoah Circuit, SPMSP

The November 16 PDX will be open to all levels of experience from Novice to Advanced.  In conjunction with the PDX we will hold our very first Club Trial Competition.

Drivers may elect to participate in either the PDX or the Club Trials, or both.

Club trial rules and procedures are very different from those for the PDX.

Below find key elements necessary for YOU to successfully attend a Club Trial event, including several that you must be addressed well in advance of the event.

1.      Club Trials are an entry-level Time Trial event and the least restrictive for participation.  It is limited to club racing cars and some classes of street cars meeting requirements for solo (autocross) competition. You should familiarize yourself with the Club Trials rules sections of the 2008 SCCA Time Trial’s Rules.

2.      At a minimum Club Trial participants must be cleared for solo driving at a PDX and must present an SCCA Time Trials Drivers License, Novice Permit, Club Racing Novice Permit or Club Racing License at registration.  You must apply for the Time Trials Drivers License in time to receive it before the event.¼a target="_blank" href="http://www.scca.com/documents/Club Forms/form-timetriallicense.pdf">Application and instructions for A Time Trials Drivers License can be found HERE.

3.      Your car will be inspected by a licensed SCCA Scrutineer the morning of the club trial if it DOES NOT have an SCCA Annual Tech sticker (many race cars have this). See the 2008 SCCA Time Trial’s Rules for specifics that pertain to car requirements for a Club Trial. As a time saving measure (for the morning of the event) you may have your car inspected prior to the event by a licensed SCCA Scrutineer, possibly at the SCCA Fall Drivers School being held on October 25 and 26, 2008. Contact You must review the rules for car preparation and meet all guidelines. An up to date club-racing logbook is acceptable.

4.      You will have one PDX track session allowing you to familiarize yourself with the track.  If you wish to have an instructor ride-along, let us know. ALL PDX RULES APPLY DURING THIS SESSION INCLUDING POINT-BY PASSING RULES.

5.      An AMB TransX 260 transponder is required. We will test your transponder by recording times during the PDX session solely for the purpose of grouping cars during the Club Trials competition.  The PDX times will not count and will not be available to you.  Please control your aggression but do not sand bag; running 85% plus of your Club Trails pace is acceptable.

NOTE: OG Racing does rent transponders at the track store.  Please contact OG Racing at 1-800-934-9112 in advance of the event if you intend to rent. Rental units may be picked up at the store the day of the event.

6.      As per the Schedule of the Day the Club Trials competitors will report to the grid and line up as directed.  The following is a description of a club trial session:

·         There will be 4 cars on the track at a time separated by approximately a 20 second interval, which are released one lap apart.

·         When directed by the starter, you must immediately and aggressively enter the track, beginning your runs.

·         A normal competition session starts with a ½-lap warm-up for a flying start.

·         You will then have three timed flying laps.

·         IF YOU CATCH UP, DO NOT PASS!  Slow and signal the closest corner worker watching for the acknowledgement of that worker.  They will radio in your catch-up.  When the car in front exits the track, resume speed until you receive the checkered flag. Control reserves the right to determine if a catch-up did occur, which may affect your timed runs.

·         Your timed sessions will end with a checkered flag.  Slow to 80-85% of maximum for the half lap cool down and exit the track.  KEEP an EYE on your mirrors. Slowing any more will result in a catch-up by the car behind you and they will still be on a timed lap.  WHEN ENTERING THE PADDOCK; SLOW TO A WALKING SPEED.

·         Should there be an on track incident, we will red flag the track. You should check your mirrors, slow and pull to a stop at the edge of the paved portion of the track.  When the track is safe, the corner worker will display a black flag and all cars will return to the hot pit for further instructions.

We do hope this provides you a GOOD START to your Club/Time Trials competition career. If you need any questions answered, please contact on of the Time Trials officials listed HERE.
