CHUCK EDMONDSON
I am a retired submarine officer, and a civilian faculty member at the Naval Academy. I attended my first SCCA club race at Laguna Seca more than 30 years ago. I feel fortunate that for me the SCCA is a family activity involving my son and daughter, as well as my wife. Once your kids reach their twenties, it’s hard to find common activities and the SCCA has given us a common bond for the future.
I am a member of the WDCR PDX/Time Trials organizing committee, and the classroom instructor at recent PDX and Club Trial events. I am also an active participant in the WDCR Solo program and a member of Autocrossers Incorporated, a WDCR Chapter Club.
While I consider Club Racing to be the cornerstone of the SCCA, I also believe that the SCCA Solo program is the strongest motorsports activity in the country. I consider PDX to be the crossroads of the Club Racing and the Solo programs. Many of the PDX students come from Solo seeking their first high-speed track experience. I believe that a driver who works their way up to solo driving status in our PDX program will be a safe and successful driver at a Club Racing drivers’ school. I’ve also witnessed that without the selfless contributions of members of the Club Racing organization to instruct and work the events, PDX and Time Trials would not exist in the WDCR. I am fortunate to have this opportunity to work with such great folks.
I would like to see the region become more visible to the local auto enthusiast community and to see us do a better job of integrating the various groups within the region. We have great programs and we need to be willing to work hard to keep it that way during these challenging economic times.
STEVE HYATT
I started with the SCCA in 1979 as a crew member. I went on to be a national Tech Inspector.
Currently, I hold national licenses in Emergency Services: Medical, Fire/Rescue, Course Marshal.
I got bitten by the need for speed shortly after joining. I ran a VW Rabbit in the Solo program before progressing through Club racing in Showroom Stock, ITB, and GT5.
I am currently the Chief Medical officer for the region, serving for over six years. I was the NEDIV Division Administrator for Emergency services before becoming the first National Administrator for Emergency Services. I served as Chief of Emergency Services for the 2004 and 2005 Runoffs.
I have represented the region at many NEDIV and National meetings and gatherings.
I am currently a Department of the Army civilian for at Fort Meade, Maryland. In my position, I have responsibilities to plan and coordinate the emergency response of the medical assets on Fort Meade.
I have many years experience in the administration of volunteer groups.
If chosen by the membership, I plan on making my decisions based on facts and information from all sources. By doing this, I will make the decision that is best for the region as a whole. I believe the region needs to continue the work on better communications and bringing all region activities together through our website. In these tough economic times, the region must work to keep current members and find new ways to increase our public exposure.
I will also work to bring the region to the position of esteem it should have as one of jumbo regions.
ERIC KRIEMELMEYER
My name is Eric Kriemelmeyer, I have been a Washington D.C. Region member of the SCCA since 1999. My participation has primarily been with Solo on the Local and National level, and the Time Trials program. Moving beyond participant level, I am a D.C. Region Time Trials Committee member and licensed Time Trial Safety Steward. I am also a licensed Solo Youth Steward, and participate in the Solo Junior Kart program with my son. In addition to my Regional membership, I am also a member of Autocrossers Incorporated, a Chapter Club of the D.C. Region. For the years 2007-2008, I have served as the President of Autocrossers Incorporated.
Many people know me in the Solo community. I am an active participant with the D.C. Region, as well as an organizer at A.I. events. The Solo program is strong in the D.C. Region and I would hope to see that continue. Hosting National Solo events is something that I would like to see continue as well.
Looking beyond the Solo community, my involvement in track driving led me to become a part of the D.C. Region Time Trial Committee. Serving as a Safety Steward I have been involved in the developing Time Trials program. I hope to see this program expand and become a very enthusiastic discipline within the Club. If elected to be a Board Member I am certain to support this programs further development.
My experiences have included activities with Club Racers and Rally enthusiasts as well. I fully support these programs and will support them for the future. If elected I will attend these events, participating whenever possible.
Professionally, I have worked in Graphics and Printing since graduating from Frostburg State University in 1994. In 2005 I started a company, Studio 553 LLC in my basement. Today we are a full service Graphic Arts outfit located in La Plata, MD. In addition to my Club participation and administrative efforts I have been a Graphic Artist for the club. I have produced season trophies for the D.C. Region and A.I. Solo programs as well as designs for T-shirt’s and promotional items.
Learning from all of these experiences gives me a unique and multifaceted view of the Club’s organization and it’s members expectations and desires. I will always be available to listen to concerns of the members and willing to address these concerns when appropriate. If elected to the BoD, I will to serve to the greater good of the Club and the needs of the membership, attend events in each discipline and be accessible to the Club.
MARSHALL LYTLE
My name is Marshall Lytle and I would like to represent you on the WDCR Board of Directors. Why would I want to do this? Basically because I firmly believe in fully participating in activities I am involved in. The Washington DC Region of the SCCA is not a for profit business, it is a group of like minded people engaging in a sport they love. Volunteers are needed to enable all the activities we do and I enjoy getting involved to help make the organization better. We have a very successful Region with a wide range of exciting sports car activities, lots of quality participants and an amazing group of workers that enable it all to happen. I have no agenda to bring to the Board other than to contribute my experience to the success of all aspects of the DC Region’s activities.
I have been a car nut all my life, but it wasn’t until 1997 that I started autocrossing and participating in performance driving schools. Unable to resist helping, I ended up being named the Worker of the Year for the 2001 BMWCCA Autocross series. After going through a few dedicated track cars, I purchased an ITS class race car in 2001 and started road racing in 2002. I think I have only missed two MARRS events since then, racing in the ITS class first and then the new ITR class. Almost immediately upon starting to race I was voted the ITS Drivers’ Representative, a position I still hold 7 years later. Two years ago I also became a member of the SCCA National Improved Touring Advisory Committee, helping shape where the IT classes go. When not racing, I volunteer time to instruct at Teen Street Survival Schools, PDX’s and DC Region Competition Schools.
I am not a stranger to leadership in volunteer organizations. For the 25years before my entry into road racing, I was very active in international sailboat racing. I was the equivalent of a Drivers’ Representative for an international “spec” class of sailboats in two regions of the country, coached collegiate sailors, competed on the international level and was on the international board of directors for the J/24 class of sailboats for 10 years.
In my professional life, I am a career officer in the United States Coast Guard with experience in search and rescue, law enforcement, intelligence analysis, and information and communications systems management. I have commanded two large Coast Guard units and am currently the Deputy Chief Information Officer for the organization.
I look forward to further serving the Club on the Board of Directors.
STEVE MILLER
It started in 1999, when my wife and I bought a fast car, decided our driving was an embarrassment to it, and set out to do better. Within two years I was racing a Spec Racer Ford with SCCA, as well as a Porsche 944 in NASA, EMRA, and PCA. My current ride is a Spec Miata.
Racing wasn't enough track time, so I also spent six years teaching performance driving with BSR's Friday at the Track, Ferrari Club, and several other car clubs. I've also taught racing for WDCR's drivers schools.
When not racing I'm a network and software engineer, keeping the .com and .net domains up and running. I've been working with Internet software and building large computer networks since 1983, and using my strong project management and organizational skills to drive complicated projects to completion.
These days nearly everything everyone does has some computer or network component to it. Since I have such a strong background in these fields, I'd like to apply my lifetime of expertise to the benefit of WDCR, making our technology base more stable and more effective for everyone who works and drives in our events.
Also, because of my experience with so many racing groups, I have an excellent understanding of what we do right (which is a lot) and what we do less well, as compared to these other clubs.
I'm generally a level-headed and reasonable guy. I believe in doing the right thing, even when it's not the best thing for me personally. I see tremendous value in the diversity of our club, across programs and car classes, and will work to see that diversity preserved and encouraged to make our region even better than it is.
The Club and the region have given me quite a lot. I'd like the opportunity to repay some of that debt.
My name is Bill Radford. I race an ITB BMW 2002 in the MARRS Series and a FM Formula Vee in Solo.
I have been a member of the Board of Directors of the Washington DC Region SCCA and have served as Treasurer for the past 6 years. I have also served as Business Manager for the Straightpipe, managed sponsorship for Club Racing events and worked closely with the Solo program assisting with sponsorship and advertising for their events.
We are an SCCA family. I have been racing for ten years and have worked for the Region in various capacities for 8 years. My wife, Jane, is always at my races, on the radios, helping me stay focused. Our youngest son, Tommy, has raced in Solo for the past 3 years. When Club Racing and Solo dates do not conflict, I run the Solo events with him, in the same car, and he beats me bad!
I would like to continue to serve on the Board to ensure all our members’ interests are heard and respected. We have a diverse Region. Our members are club racers, race workers, auto crossers, rally crossers, PDX participants, rally participants and just plain members. Over the past several years the Board has made substantial improvement to the Region’s competitive position and our financial and administrative procedures. We have implemented on-line registration for club racing, workers, solo, rally cross and PDX , initiated a worker incentive program - probably the best in the SCCA- that provides dues reimbursement to our dedicated workers, improved our profitability by controlling expenses, increased the return on our investments and strengthened the financial position of the Region.
The WDCR provides the best club racing series (MARRS) and the best Solo series (the WDCR Championship), in the SCCA. In addition we have great PDX and Rallycross series and the Board is now supporting the reinvigoration of our Rally program which was once the best in SCCA.
I would like to continue the success we have achieved over the past years. While we can always do better, I believe the progress we have made helps us maintain our status as the Best Region in the SCCA!
On the personal side, I am a CPA specializing in financial and business management service, have a Masters in Business Administration and extensive experience as both a Chief Financial Officer and a Chief Operating Officer. I have served on both corporate and non-profit boards and fully understand the responsibility to represent all the members of the Region.
During my first term on the Board of Directors, I coordinated and helped implement the region’s new website. I am currently the primary webmaster, the Regional Executive, and have been the Assistant Regional Executive and the Secretary in previous years.
Entering my eighth full season on the Solo Committee as a Worker Chief, I spend my autocross days coordinating the work shifts of 250 competitors and racing a Miata in STS2.
I would like to see the region continue to be a leading region of the SCCA. With the MARRS and Solo programs frequently noted as one of the best in their disciplines, these programs must continue to be supported to maintain their quality and popularity. In addition, the region’s natural progression should bring our RallyCross, Rally, and PDX programs to the same level of notoriety. These programs need to be nurtured by the region to grow and thrive in the coming years.
When not autocrossing or working on Board of Directors activities, I work for T. Rowe Price as a Business Systems Analyst in Investment Technology. I also officiate Field Hockey for the Baltimore-metro area high schools and recreational youth leagues.
I graduated with a BA from Haverford College. I then earned my MBA, with a concentration in Information Technology, at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, College Park.
My husband Steve, our son DJ, our daughter Elektra and I live in the Baltimore metro area with our 2 rescued Italian Greyhounds.
MIKE SNYDER
I’m 48 years old, married with a son and daughter, residing in Burtonsville, MD. I hold a degree in Business Administration with a minor in computer science and management. I am employed as the manager of the building services division of Capital Quest Mortgage Company. I also am an owner of Advantage Electrostatic Refinishers, Inc., a painting company I founded in 1984.
I have been an autocrosser at heart for 17 years. I really appreciate the high level of total concentration required to pilot a vehicle at maximum traction levels, mistake free, on a busy course.
I joined the Sports Car Club of America and Autocrossers, Inc. (a DC Region chapter club) as a working member in 1992. By 1996, I was in charge of our autocross events at Camden Yards. At the time they were the largest events in the area. I have served two year stints as President, Treasurer and Vice President of Autocrossers, Inc..
I also started doing National level events, both Pro Solo and Tours in 1996. I have been to Nationals and the Pro Finale 12 times, trophying three times. At Nationals, I have served as Grid Chief, Chief of Course, Operating Steward and Assistant Chief Steward. As a DC Region member I have helped operate the National level events in Petersburg and FedEx Field (Redskins stadium). Also, I have been a Solo Safety Steward for 9 years.
I have served on the Lot Acquisition Committee for many years, interfacing with large organizations like University of Maryland, Towson State University, Baltimore Orioles, Tipton Airport Authority and Ripken Stadium.
As evidenced by the leadership roles I play within the SCCA Solo community, I enjoy being actively involved in the SCCA organization, not just competing, but in making the SCCA a better value for all its members.
LIN TOLAND
For those of you who I have not met yet, I am Lin Toland; a Flagger & Steward with Club Racing, the Chief Steward for the Region's PDX Program and a candidate for the Washington DC Region Board of Directors. I have been a member of the DC Region just over 12 years, my experience with SCCA actually dates back to the early 1970's. I started as a Solo Driver and flagger out in the San Francisco Region, but a military career got in the way and I never renewed my membership after 1974. My last military transfer brought us to Martinsburg, WV where we retired. In 1996 I won a set of passes to the Labor Day event where I met Josh Cockey, and it was just three weeks later I was "in whites" cross track at Station 8. Since then the entire family has gotten involved. My wife Janet works in T&S and my son Jim has worked T&S, Tech, Pit, and currently crews and races an SSM Miata.¼/SPAN>
Integrity and commitment to seeing our Region continue to grow in a manner that will allow all of our members enjoy the benefits of that growth are the primary reasons I seek election. Here are a couple of my thoughts:
There are some who want to consider the Region a Business which is not in itself a bad thing provided we remember who ALL our customers are. I see our customers falling into two categories either they are the entrants to our growing variety of events we hold or they are the hundreds of Region volunteers who give freely of their time to ensure that these events take place safely. The DC Region has established and maintains some of the SCCA's Best Regional competition programs. Our MARRS Series in Club Racing is one of the strongest Regional Racing Series' in the Nation. Our Solo program has been recognized as one of the best, if not the best in SCCA. Our newer programs Rally Cross and PDX have both demonstrated that they too are well on their way. While we are part of a National Club we do need to function somewhat like a business if we are to survive, and we should continue to grow our business. What I see as key is that growth should come in ways that ensures that what might benefit one group does not have a negative impact on another. My 31 year career with the Coast Guard, including a tour as a Commanding Officer, taught me many things. One important lesson I learned was that from time to time we need to make unpopular decisions for the benefit of the organization. That is the kind of responsibility comes with being a member of the Board of Directors for our region; and I have no problem taking on that responsibility. I am able to listen to all the sides of an issue and then make the decision I believe best serves the Region as a whole no matter what my own personal thoughts might be.
I was recently asked if I had an agenda and I do. I believe the Region needs to return to marketing DC Region Gear. Specifically, I would like see a DC Region Hat. We have workers, and drivers that compete and work in other regions of SCCA and they should have something to show they are from DC Region. Our flaggers get the DC Region Flagger Patches for the Back of their Whites, when they get their Divisional F&C license, but what about the rest of the specialties? I would also like to see some nice DC Region Gear available that we could give to those out of region workers who come and support our events on a regular basis.
Professionally, as I mentioned, I am a retired Coast Guard Chief Warrant Officer. Since my retirement I have been working for General Dynamics as a consultant specializing in Disaster Recovery Planning and Information Assurance reporting and auditing. I am currently on a long term contract with the Coast Guard at Buzzard's Point.¼/SPAN>On those few weekends when we are not at an SCCA event we can be found at other tracks up and down the East Coast either road racing my Briggs Sprint Kart with the World Kart Assn or as a SCCA worker supporting other events.
Lastly; not many race organizations would welcome a 6 year old child and then train them to be a valued member of the worker team, but our region does it on a regular basis. It's been said that it takes a village to raise a child and the Washington DC Region was the 'village' that raised "JimAAAA", and I want help to continue to see our 'village' grow.
